At KinderAcademy for Young Scholars, we believe Grade 1 is much more than the first year of primary school—it is the year children begin to see themselves as capable, independent learners.
Our Grade 1 program provides a thoughtful transition from early childhood education to primary school, combining the warmth and nurturing environment children need with the academic challenge they are ready to embrace. Every lesson is designed to spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and build the confidence needed for lifelong learning.
Following the Jamaica National Standards Curriculum, our experienced teachers enrich learning with internationally respected, evidence-based teaching practices in literacy and mathematics. Building Strong Readers Through Evidence-Based Instruction
Learning to read is one of the most important milestones in a child's education. At KinderAcademy, we use structured, evidence-based literacy instruction to help every child become a confident, capable, and enthusiastic reader.
Our literacy program combines explicit phonics instruction with meaningful reading and writing experiences. Children learn to decode words, develop reading fluency, strengthen comprehension, expand their vocabulary, and express their ideas confidently through speaking and writing.
Through small-group instruction and ongoing assessment, teachers provide the support and encouragement each child needs to progress at their own pace while building a lifelong love of reading.
Building Mathematical Thinkers
Developing Confidence Through Understanding
Mathematics at KinderAcademy is about far more than learning numbers and memorizing facts. Using the internationally respected Singapore Mathematics approach, children develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts through hands-on exploration, visual learning, and real-world problem-solving.
Lessons begin with concrete materials such as counters, linking cubes, base-ten blocks, and ten frames before progressing to pictures and abstract thinking. This proven Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach helps children understand not only how to solve problems but also why mathematical concepts work.
Through engaging activities, purposeful questioning, and daily practice, children build confidence in number sense, reasoning, measurement, geometry, and problem-solving while developing a positive attitude towards mathematics.
